President Tinubu Vows to Advance Development and Environmental Restoration of Ogoniland

Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed his dedication to realising the human and natural resource capabilities of Ogoniland. Tinubu said he would prioritise environmental and economic stability for Nigerian communities.

This commitment was expressed during a meeting with members of the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers of Ogoni, Rivers State, at the State House.

President Tinubu also assured that his administration would actively pursue the Ogoni cleanup initiative and expand the scope of empowerment programmes to benefit more indigenous people.

Addressing the council led by King Samuel Nnee, Gbenemene Tai Kingdom and Paramount Ruler of Kpite Tai, President Tinubu underscored the importance of diligently and honourably advancing the Ogoni cleanup project inherited by his administration.

The statement was conveyed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a release titled, ‘President Tinubu to Ogoni leaders: we will unlock the human and natural resource potential of Ogoniland.’

The Ogoni Cleanup Project, formerly known as the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, aims to mitigate various environmental degradation issues in Ogoniland, situated in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region.
