The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on Nigerians to appreciate President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address the rising cost of food and improve infrastructure, despite current challenges in the country.
Wike acknowledged the public’s frustrations over high food prices but stressed that the government is working hard to resolve the situation. He explained that poor infrastructure, especially bad roads, significantly drives up transport and food costs.
“If you don’t have good road, the price of goods will go up. If you have good roads, it’s likely to reduce because the transporters will always complain, Why we will not add money? There’s no good road,” he said.
The minister assured that ongoing infrastructure projects in both urban and rural areas will improve the situation.
“By the time we finish infrastructure in the city and in the rural areas, I think our lives will be different. It will no longer be we are suffering.
“But I can tell you, before the end of this administration, Mr. President, Nigeria will smile. We will never do anything that we know will not work. I know he means business. I know he’s committed,” Wike assured.
He defended the government’s commitment, emphasising that the challenges facing Nigeria today have existed for many years.
“The only problem we have, you must also ask yourself, these problems have been there for donkey years. For donkey key is, whether it was PDP, whether it was APC, whether it was military, these problems have been there. Even got to the level that we thought this country would have collapsed,” he said.
Despite the tough decisions being made, Wike expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership.
“But by his dexterity, by his commitment, he’s putting in place which will temporarily be difficult, but which at the end of the day, we all come to see praises to God.
“And thank Mr. President for standing firm to do what is right for the country to move forward,” he said.
