The Ukrainian presidency announced that President Volodymyr Zelensky and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda had their first meeting.

The Ukrainian president reportedly discussed his country’s peace measures at the UN, according to a tweet.

He claimed that they also talked about the prospects for expanding their mutual relations. Zelensky stated that he anticipated close collaboration, particularly in enhancing food security.

“I was pleased to have the first conversation in the history of bilateral relations with President of Uganda
@KagutaMuseveni. I have outlined the Ukrainian peace initiatives at the UN. We also discussed the potential for the development of bilateral relations,” Zelensky said.

“I have outlined the Ukrainian peace initiatives at the UN. We also discussed the potential for developing bilateral relations,” he added.

It happened as the 193-member UN General Assembly was debating a proposal supported by Ukraine that called for a vote on a resolution to bring about peace in that country.

Three motions against the Russian invasion were put to a vote by the assembly in the previous year, and each received between 140 and 143 votes in favour. Just before the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the most recent voting will take place.

Uganda has continued to state their neutrality regarding Ukraine- Russia war, with president Museveni urging that “we are friends with everybody”.
