Pro-Palestine Demonstrators Shut Down Key Bridges, Tunnel in New York City

During the Monday morning rush, pro-Palestine protesters brought traffic to a standstill in New York City, shutting down three major bridges and disrupting parts of a key tunnel, leading to widespread delays in the United State’s largest metropolis.

The demonstrators, advocating for an end to the Gaza Strip siege by Israel and an immediate cessation of ongoing hostilities, obstructed traffic on the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Williamsburg Bridges, along with the New Jersey-bound lanes of the Holland Tunnel, before being dispersed by law enforcement.

Dozens of protesters, many holding signs demanding an end to US military assistance for Israel, sat on the pavement with their hands locked in unity at each location. The “Shut it Down for Palestine” group also staged a rally in front of the New York Stock Exchange.

The protest significantly stalled traffic between Brooklyn and Manhattan, with police making multiple arrests at the bridges and tunnels, according to various media reports.

The New York Police Department later confirmed on Monday morning that the demonstrators had vacated all locations shortly before noon but cautioned commuters to expect residual delays.
