A High Court in Bayelsa State has granted an injunction preventing supporters of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike from conducting a rally until the motion on notice is heard and resolved.
On Thursday, Justice I.A. Uzakah presided over proceedings and approved the motion ex parte in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025, halting the planned rally that was set to take place in Yenagoa on April 12, 2025.
The case was initiated by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the state, Mr. Biriyai Dambo SAN, who named the NEW Associates, the rally’s organisers, along with Mr. George Turnah and the FCT Minister, Wike, as the first and second defendants/respondents.
“An order of the interim injunction is hereby made or granted restraining the 1st and 2nd Defendants, whether by themselves, their agents, associates, privies, representatives (or any person whatsoever acting at their behest), from conducting, convening, coordinating, engaging in, organising, participating in, holding, hosting, or facilitating any political assembly, rally meeting, or gathering within Bayelsa State, forthe purpose of solidarity, hosting, and celebrating the 2nd Defendant in Bayelsa State, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.” The court ruled.
The Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police for Bayelsa State Police Command are other defendants in the case.
