Protesters on Friday thronged the Luthuli House and called for the stepping aside of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
They asked the ruling party, African National Congress to force its leader and President to leave office in the face of corruption allegations.
The case of the theft of millions from Ramaphosa’s Phala-Phala Limpopo farm has seen the South African public ask questions about their President’s innocence.
The protesters were dressed in ANC clothing and asked that the President be suspended until investigations into the case are concluded.
Context to the Allegations
In 2020, Ramaphosa’s wild game farm in Limpopo was attacked by robbers with dollars taken away.
While were arrested in Namibia, they revealed they were intimated by someone who worked on the farm and knew a lot of money was stored under the cushion.
The Police at the time had begun investigation and the South African Police chief travelled to Namibia but the case, according to local reports was hushed.
Ramaphosa’s failure to tell the public of the incident has since raised questions about his innocence in the corruption allegations.
“Ramaphosa knew something was wrong – why did he choose to keep quiet about it – we are not taken seriously here and we need to take action on the matter, soon, ” a representative of the protesters said.
“By Sunday 17 July, he must go or we are going to occupy SABC, NPA …..effect a citizens arrest.”
