Protests have erupted in several states across Nigeria due to the scarcity of the New naira notes and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s order to stop the use of old naira notes as legal tender.
In Warri, massive protests are ongoing around the Udu road axis, with the Access Bank reportedly on fire.
Meanwhile, in Ibadan, major roads have been blocked due to the same issue, causing several people to become stranded. Currently, there is a protest at Orita Challenge, Ibadan, where the road has been blocked over the lingering scarcity of the new naira notes of N200, N500, and N1000.
Sources said transport unions around Eleyele/Ologuneru axis of the state capital mobilised and hit the road, chanting anti-government songs.
Other places hit by pockets of protests include Gbopa, Ologuneru, Apete, Sango, Poly road, Mokola and Iwo Road axis
The protesters already blocked the Eleyele/Eruwa road, making movement impossible for residents. Many are angry because they couldn’t withdraw or deposit their cash in the bank.
In Ondo state, the CBN has been allegedly cordoned off to protect it from angry protesters.
Yesterday, commercial activities were paralysed in Sango -Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of Ogun State, as residents trooped out to protest
Residents who had been going to banks for cash withdrawal said they could not access their money.
They were said to have become agitated when the commercial banks refused to accept the old naira notes as deposits.
