Protests in Nigeria are unrealistic and a waste of time because the protesters misunderstand the issues and make errors of assumption, according to renowned lawyer and public speaker, Dele Farotimi.
“The Nigerian victim continues to make the error of assumption that he is a citizen or that the country is a democracy. The assumption is further compounded by believing the country is governed by people who derive their legitimacy from our sovereign will.”
Speaking at Newscentral’s sixth Townhall Series, Farotimi opined that the summation of these errors leaves Nigerians deluding that any protests will bring the government to account.
“Nigeria is ruled by an administration of impunity, so when the Nigerian gets up and imagines himself a citizen, contrary to every evidence supplied by his senses, you have to know ab initio the demands he makes could not possibly have been realistic because he proceeded from multiple wrong presumptions.” He added.
Farotimi further said that protests will continue to be baseless because of a relationship deficit between those in leadership positions and the governed.
“You are protesting to the deaf, they can’t hear you and they certainly don’t care. There is no relativity between those in government and those that afflict.”
