Protests: Kano Imposes 24-Hour Curfew, Beef Up Security

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has imposed a 24-hour curfew to control the violence and looting that erupted in the state on Thursday.

News Central reports that what started as a peaceful protest by thousands of Kano residents quickly turned into full blown chaos as hoodlums armed with weapons hijacked the demonstrations.

After a five-hour review of the situation and meetings with security officials, the governor announced the curfew at the Government House, as a move to restore peace and security to the ancient city.

Governor Kabir stressed the need to protect lives and property, invoking his constitutional authority as the state’s Chief Security Officer.

“After exhaustive security meetings with security Heads it was agreed to impose 24 hours curfew to check the uprising.”

“Based on the power vested on me by Nigeria constitution as the Chief Security Officer of the state, I hereby declared 24-hour curfew in the state to protect life, and property, ” he said.

The Governor called for compliance with the curfew and urged residents to stay alert and work together for harmony.

News Central reports that Nigerians commenced a nationwide protest against bad governance and economic hardship in the country today. The protests are intended to last from August 1 to August 10, 2024.

Hours ago, the Borno Government declared a 24-hour curfew in the state to “restore peace” and ensure public safety of citizens.
