Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has declared the current campaign as the best season of his managerial career, citing impressive statistics while dismissing reports of discord within the squad.
“Statistically, this is my best season as a coach,” Enrique said in a press conference ahead of Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash with Lyon. Even if you (the media) criticise, that there are lies invented, it’s my best in terms of numbers, chances generated by us, by the opponents, it’s the best.”
PSG remain unbeaten in domestic competition and leads Ligue 1 by five points, ahead of Marseille and Monaco. However, their European form tells a different story, with the club languishing in 25th place in the Champions League rankings and at risk of elimination.
Enrique, the former Barcelona and Spain boss, brushed off speculation of tensions with players, including French winger Ousmane Dembélé. “I’m a coach. I’m not their father, brother or ‘bro’, I decide, I have to make decisions, I have no problem making them, those that I consider to be the best for my team,” he said.
Luis Enrique emphasized pushing players to perform at their peak, even if it requires unpopular decisions. “get everyone out of the comfort zone, those who play more as well as those who play less. I have always done it in my career and I do not intend to change.@
PSG face a busy schedule before the year ends, with matches against Monaco in Ligue 1 and a French Cup tie against Lens following Sunday’s encounter with Lyon.
