To commemorate this year’s Workers Day, the Federal Government of Nigeria has designated Monday, May 1, a national holiday. Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, declared the public holiday on behalf of the Federal Government on Friday.
Mr. Aregbesola praised workers for their hard work, diligence, and sacrifice in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore, on Friday, noting that their efforts are largely responsible for the country’s greatness and the respect Nigeria now commands.
The minister said, “There is dignity in labour, we have to have dedication and commitment to the work we do because it is vital to nation-building.”
He urged employees to adopt a productivity culture, adding, “The end of work is productivity. It is productivity that leads to the satisfactory provision of goods and services and wealth creation.”
The minister encourages workers to elevate the level of their trade in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s drive to enhance the vehicle of government and ensure that all Nigerians gain maximum advantage from the country.
The minister praised all security services for their achievements in the fight against criminals around the country, and he urged them not to relent in their efforts to dissuade criminals anytime they reared their heads.
Public Holiday: Federal Government Recently Declared 21 and 24 April 2023 to Mark Eid-El-Fitr Celebrations
The Federal Government of Nigeria had recently declared a public holiday for Friday 21st and Monday 24th April 2023, to mark this year’s Eid al-Fitr Celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, also made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, calling on all Muslims to imbibe and practice the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice, and good neighborliness, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
