Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to a 30-day suspension of strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure following a call with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Kremlin announced on Tuesday.
However, Putin tied the possibility of a broader ceasefire to Ukraine halting its forced mobilisation and military rearmament.
The Kremlin described the conversation between the two leaders as a “detailed and frank exchange of views.”
Putin outlined key conditions for a long-term resolution to the conflict, including an end to Western military and intelligence support for Ukraine.
He also raised concerns about how any ceasefire could be effectively monitored.

Trump proposed the temporary halt on energy strikes, and “Vladimir Putin responded positively and immediately gave the Russian military a corresponding command,” according to the Kremlin’s statement.
In addition to the strike pause, Russia and Ukraine will exchange 175 prisoners each on Wednesday, the Kremlin said.
Putin reiterated that the only long-term solution to the war would require the West to stop arming Ukraine, warning that continued foreign support could lead to further escalation.
