Egyptian International Ramadan Sobhi has joined Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids from English Championship side Huddersfield Town on a five-year deal.
Sobhi joined Huddersfield Town from Stoke City in 2018 in a 5.7 million Pound deal, making only four appearances for the Championship side. That same year, he made a loan move to the Egyptian giants Al Ahly, he went on to extend the loan deal for the 2019-2020 season which later got cancelled because of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Sohbi scored seven goals and provided 14 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions with Al Ahly and has decided to join Pyramids permanently for an undisclosed fee.
Sohbi wrote about his delight as he disclosed his latest move on social media.
“Today, I became a player in the Pyramids club, in a new experience and a new ambition,” Sobhi tweeted.
The winger turned down offers from Zamalek and some other European outfits, including Serie A side Bologna.
“I didn’t move to Pyramids because of money but because the club is run in a European style and our ambitions have matched together,” Sobhi said in his press conference.
“The decision to join Pyramids was mine only and no other person have interfered in it. It is an interesting challenge for me, the way they [Pyramids] are run is no different than what I saw abroad.”
“I have signed a five-year contract with Pyramids. Abdallah El-Said and Ali Gabr were the first to congratulate me. I am happy to be at the club, negotiations didn’t take long. I hope to achieve positive results with the team.”
Huddersfield’s head of football operation, Leigh Bromby revealed that the club had to respect the players decision to leave.
“We tried to respect Ramadan’s wishes in what is a very difficult marketplace in Egypt and we are happy that we came to an arrangement that suited both parties,” Bromby told club website.
“Our thanks to Pyramids FC, who have been very professional to deal with throughout.
“Everyone at Huddersfield Town wishes Ramadan all the best for the future.”
The winger will play alongside former Al Ahly teammates, Abdullah El-Said and John Antwi of Ghana. He will also join the Pyramids strike force which includes Eric Traore, Dodo El-Gabbas, Amor Layouni, and Lumala Abdu.
