In a bid to bolster ties between both countries, South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday held bilateral talks with visiting Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed.
Ahmed arrived in South Africa on Saturday for a two-day official visit, following another visit to the Republic of Guinea.
The talks focused on a range of issues both continentally and globally.
South Africa’s presidency declared in a statement, that the talks culminated in the signing of a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic passports.
Two memoranda of understanding were also signed; one on tourism cooperation and another on health cooperation.
President Ramaphosa and PM Abiy also discussed South Africa’s upcoming assumpiton of its position as the chair of the African Union under the approved theme: “Silencing the Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development.”
The two Leaders underscored the importance of achieving the objective of Silencing the Guns in order to create the necessary conditions for Africa’s development and agreed that the next Session of the South Africa-Ethiopia Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) will be held in 2020, in Addis Ababa.
