The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), in partnership with the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM) and the Nebraska National Guard (NENG), provided medical care to 5,000 people in Rwanda over a ten-day period, according to a statement released on March 21.

It stated that the development was made possible by a collaborative medical outreach effort in the Rwamagana and Kayonza regions of Rwanda‘s Eastern Province.

According to the data, the number of patients treated in the current outreach campaign is more than double that of August 2023, when 2,000 people received medical attention.

The recently finished activity offered services in a variety of fields, including orthopaedics, general surgery, internal medicine, gynaecology and ophthalmology, ENT (ear, nose, and throat), paediatrics, and dental and clinical psychology.

According to the statement, Lt Col Dr John Bukuru of Rwanda Military Hospital reported that the joint team performed 92 successful surgeries at Rwamagana Teaching Hospital, Gahini District Hospital (in Kayonza District), and Mwulire Health Centre (a health facility in Rwamagana District).

He expressed gratitude for the partnership between the two military forces and the local government, which facilitated the treatment of a significant number of patients within a short timeframe.
