In a comprehensive press statement, Dapper Music & Entertainment has addressed accusations that surfaced following the departures of artists Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, and Muyeez from the label.
The company strongly refutes claims of exploitation and unfair contract practices, emphasising its commitment to transparency, fairness, and the development of its artists.
Dapper Music clarified that all agreements were voluntary and that artists were encouraged to seek legal counsel.
The label asserted that its contracts applied solely to projects completed during the contract term and categorically denied any claims of indefinite ties to artists’ future earnings.
Specifically, they highlighted that Shallipopi’s contract was renegotiated with his full consent in October 2024, granting him greater flexibility.
Regarding Muyeez, the company refuted allegations of signing him as a minor, explaining that his father had endorsed the contract in the presence of witnesses.
Financial mismanagement claims were also dismissed, with the label highlighting its detailed accounting processes and full cooperation with an ongoing audit initiated by Shallipopi’s representatives.
In the statement, Dapper Music condemned the accusations as calculated efforts to tarnish its reputation, pointing to the company’s record of nurturing Nigerian talent to international acclaim.

At Dapper Music & Entertainment, we uphold transparency, fairness, and professionalism in all our dealings. Every contract we present is designed with clarity, ensuring all parties understand and agree to the terms, and legal representation is always encouraged.
Management Commission and Investment
Our 30% management commission was agreed upon voluntarily, reflecting the substantial investment required to launch and sustain our artists’ careers. Despite challenges such as low royalty payouts in our region, we remain committed to nurturing new talent and showcasing it to the world.
Addressing the Allegations
- Contract Terms: Dapper Music denies claims of binding artists to indefinite agreements. Contracts relate only to projects undertaken during the term of the agreement.
- Commitment to Artists: Shallipopi’s terms were renegotiated in October 2024 to allow him more freedom. This was done collaboratively, with full legal representation.
- Accounting Transparency: We have provided complete accounting records and are cooperating fully with the audit initiated by Shallipopi’s representatives.
- Legal Threats: Attempts to tarnish our reputation through public opinion are unwarranted. We remain confident in the integrity of our practices and are prepared to address these matters in court.
- Signing of Minors: Claims that Muyeez was signed as a minor are false. His father, acting as his guardian, signed the contract with witnesses present.
- Premeditated Attack: These allegations appear to be premeditated and malicious, aimed at undermining our success.
Commitment to Artists and the Industry
It is disheartening to face such accusations despite our significant contributions to developing Nigerian and global artists. Under our management, artists like Shallipopi and Muyeez have achieved remarkable success, including award nominations and chart-topping releases.
