‘Calm Down’ crooner Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema is back in the news for smashing a new billboard record. The Nigerian afrobeats superstar has become the first African act to hit the number one spot on the Billboard Global chart. 

The 22-year-old Mavin, and Jonzing records signee has enjoyed global acceptance in his barely 4 years music career, this time claiming the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart.

His globally accepted hit song “Calm Down,” featuring American singer Selena Gomez leaped from No. 8 on the global platform to no.1 ahead of English Singer, Sam smith, French DJ David Guetta, global sensation Harry Styles, American songstress Taylor Swift amongst others. 

According to Billboard, the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world. 

With 53.3 million streams and 4,000 downloads sold in territories outside the U.S. between Dec. 30-Jan. 5, Rema becomes the first act from Africa to achieve this milestone. 

Rema has indeed solidified his position in the global music scene, recall he contributed on two tracks in the Wakanda forever original soundtrack and also got certified in several parts of the world, including his gold certification in America.
