It’s another milestone for Nigerian youngster Divine Ikubor, professionally known as Rema. The Mavin / Jonzing records artist has just broken past the Top 40 spot on billboards Top 100 charts with his mega hit single ‘Calm Down’ remix.
The 22-year-old musician just secured the No.35 spot on the charts, haven spent a total of 20 weeks on the global music ranking platform. The ‘Calm Down’ remix featuring American sensation Selena Gomez, has earned its new peak spot above many international records, including Rihanna’s Oscar-nominated single ‘Lift Me Up’, Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time’ amongst other hits by Sza, Doja Cat and even future.
It’s been back-to-back accolades for the Benin city born star since releasing his debut album Rave & Roses last year. Shortly after, the “Calm Down” remix debuted at number 91 on Billboard Hot 100 and has since sold over a million units in the US combined – earning his first Gold certification by the RIAA. The global smash hit has also earned a gold certification in the Uk, Diamond in France and Platinum in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Belgium.
Recall that the Nigerian afrobeats superstar also become the first African act to hit the number one spot on the Billboard Global chart 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts earlier this year.
