There’s great news for Nigerian superstar REMA, Born Divine Ikubor, the 22 year old musician has just amassed a total of a million unit sales for his hit single ‘Calm Down’ in the United States. Reputable music chart platform, Chart Data broke the news revealing that a combined sales of the original song and its international remix with Selena Gomez catapulted sales to over a million units.
Signed to Jonzing world, a subsidiary of Mavin records, REMA broke into the international market and earned his first RIAA Gold Certification in the US haven sold over five hundred thousand units for Calm Down. The lead single of his debut album ‘Rave and Roses’ then went on to snatch an international collaboration that now earned him a spot on the highly coveted Billboard Hot 100 charts. As of today, that song sits at the 83rd spot after spending 5 weeks on the charts – He is the only African artist on the charts this week as TEMS’ ‘Free Mind’ and Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’ have taken a bow.
As it stands, both versions of the hit pop song have garnered a billion streams accumulated on all platforms. The song has charted across Europe, reaching number one on the Belgian Ultratop 50, Dutch Top 40 and acquired a diamond certification in France and platinum certification in Belgium and Portugal. It also sits as one of the most streamed Nigerian music videos on YouTube with 300m views in only 10 months.
