Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has organised protests in 10 countries to honour journalists killed in Gaza. According to reports, the media watchdog highlighted the Israeli army’s responsibility for the deaths of over 130 journalists in the Palestinian territory since last October.
The demonstrations took place in Germany, Brazil, Spain, the US, UK, France, Senegal, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Tunisia. In a statement, RSF stressed the alarming rate at which journalists are being killed in Gaza, warning that it jeopardises the right to free and independent information.
Thibaut Bruttin, RSF’s General Director, called for an end to what he described as a massacre of Gaza’s journalists, noting that more than 130 have been killed in under a year. He also warned that these attacks threaten to impose a media blackout on the enclave, depriving the public of reliable, independent reporting from a critical conflict zone.
Since October last year, Israeli military actions in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of over 41,000 Palestinians.
