Reprisals Attacks: Armed Men Raid, Kill Villagers in Eastern Congo

Armed attackers, believed to be members of the Allied Democratic Forces have killed at least a dozen villagers in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The ADF has been a devastating group for decades killing hundreds of Eastern Congolese people. After a military onslaught in 2019, the group hasn’t stopped waging reprisal attacks on innocent locals in villages.

Men dangling knives and other weapons attacked Bulongo, a village in Eastern Congo, on Sunday night. The dead bodies may also be more than reported as they were killed recklessly and laid on the ground.

On Wednesday, the United States listed the ADF as a Foreign terrorist organisation after links with ISIS were suggested. The UN has however been unable to find links so far.

According to official figures of the UN, at least 850 were killed by the ADF in Eastern Congo in 2020. Locals have complained bitterly about the absence of the army as villagers in Bulongo were axed.

The presence of militia groups continue to ravage Ugandan, Rwandan and Congolese borders, with most of them being offshoots of a bitter war which ended in 2003.

Despite the dominance of leadership in the region, solutions have not been easier to get as the militia keep soaring in strength.
