Results Collation Still Ongoing Post Presidential Election in Ghana

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has said results are still being collated and has advised citizens and parties to desist from declaring unofficial results.

Ghanaians trooped out to vote in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections on Monday and almost 24 hours after the conclusion of the elections, results are still being collated round the country.

The commission said it has abolished the usual constituency-by-constituency results and has resorted to declaring results by regions.

There are 275 constituencies and 16 regions in Ghana.

The election which was generally peaceful and smooth saw international observers from the EU and ECOWAS.

Presidential candidates, Nana Akufo-Addo-Addo and opposition, John Mahama have urged their supporters and the generality of Ghanaians to stay vigilant as results are being expected.

The eventual winner of the election is expected to have garnered 50%+1 of total votes, absence of which will see a run-off election being conducted two weeks after the announcement of the results.
