The Rivers State House of Assembly has given Governor Siminalayi Fubara a deadline of 48 hours to present a fresh list of commissioner nominees.
In a March 5 letter signed by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the assembly accused Fubara of improperly swearing in 19 commissioners without undergoing legislative screening and confirmation, claiming a breach of the Constitution.
The lawmakers further asserted that the governor made multiple other appointments to positions needing assembly approval before taking office.
Among the infractions cited, the assembly pointed to the appointment and swearing-in of Dagogo Iboroma as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice without prior legislative consent.

This situation highlights the growing political conflict between Governor Fubara and the Assembly, which has experienced escalating tensions regarding appointments and governance in the state.
The letter, however, demands that the governor provide a list of nominees for the positions of commissioners within the Rivers State Executive Council, as well as nominees to fill vacancies in all other offices within 48 hours.
In response, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon Sydney Tambari, remarked that the 27 lawmakers were driven by misconceptions, adding that they were overstepping their authority and exacerbating the political situation.
