In a phone conversation on Monday, President Joe Biden assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of swift provision of arms to Ukraine‘s military. This security package, valued at $61 billion and encompassing air defence weaponry, will be released upon approval by the United States Senate and subsequent signing into law by President Biden.
With Senate approval already granted over the weekend, the package is set for a vote on Tuesday. President Biden additionally pledged economic assistance to support Ukraine’s financial stability, aiding in the reconstruction of infrastructure ravaged by Russian aggression.
According to a white house statement, Biden said the U.S. would also support reform “as Ukraine moves forward on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration.”
“I appreciate President Biden’s unwavering support for Ukraine and true global leadership,” Mr Zelensky posted on social media after the conversation.
“The president has assured me that the package will be approved quickly and that it will be powerful, strengthening our air defence as well as long-range and artillery capabilities.”
