Kenyan President William Ruto has chosen Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki to take over as deputy president following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua. The parliament speaker announced the nomination on Friday.
Kindiki emerged as a top contender for the position after Gachagua’s impeachment by the Senate on Thursday.
During a special sitting of the lower parliament, National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula informed the House about the president’s message regarding the nomination of Professor Kithure Kindiki to fill the vacancy in the office of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
Ruto was required to nominate a new deputy within 14 days of the impeachment, and parliament must now vote on his choice within 60 days.
