Ruto Reinstates Several Ministers as New Cabinet Shapes Up

President Ruto Revokes Appointment of 4 Rail Board Members (News Central TV)

Kenyan President William Ruto has re-appointed several cabinet members he had dismissed last week as he seeks to form a government to address young protesters’ concerns.

Ruto announced 11 appointments during a televised speech, which he described as the first step in forming a unity government. He assured of more nominations to come in the near future.

The Kenyan president reappointed Kithure Kindiki as Interior minister, Aden Duale as Defence minister, and Soipan Tuya as Environment minister. He also changed the portfolios of two other ministers.

The recent cabinet dissolution was to appease the rampaging protesters who forced him to backtrack on the proposed $2.7 billion tax increases.

These protests have led to scores of deaths, leaving Ruto in a problematic position to look for other ways to reduce substantial debts and a public grappling with soaring living expenses.
