Rwanda Forces Unearth Second Arms Cache in Mozambique

Mozambican President Visits Rwandan Forces in Cabo Delgado (News Central TV)

President Paul Kagame and his host President Filipe Nyusi are addressing Rwandan troops deployed in Mozambique-working alongside the Mozambican Armed Defence Forces (FADM) in fighting terrorist groups in Cabo Delgado province in September

Troops from Rwanda on counter-insurgency operations in Mozambique’s gas-rich northern Cabo Delgado province have discovered another arms cache abandoned by terrorists.

Coming barely a week after the first find, the arms were found in Limala forest, South East of Mocimboa da Praia district. The location was a stronghold of the insurgents before they were evicted by a combined team of Mozambican and Rwandan forces in August 2021.

According to a statement from the Rwandan defence, the insurgents linked to the Islamic State group have tried “several times to return to retrieve the weapons without success”.

The first arsenal of weapons and ammunition hidden by the terrorists was discovered on October 15, in the dense forest in Mbau axis.

The Rwandan forces have been in an operation to prevent the insurrectionists from returning and rearming themselves into the area for further terror attacks.
