The Southern African Development Community (SADC) announced a memorial on Monday for 4 soldiers killed after a missile attack on their camp in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Three of the slain soldiers from Tanzania passed away during the operation and the fourth soldier from South Africa died in the hospital.
They were a part of the Southern African peacekeeping force that was sent into the restive eastern Democratic Republic of Congo in December of last year to support government troops against M23 insurgents.
There are soldiers in the force from Tanzania, Malawi, and South Africa, three of the strongest militaries in the region.
According to reports, the mortar strike happened last Thursday, and on Monday, SADC headquarters in Goma, the provincial capital, hosted a ceremony to honour the fallen.
