Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane has become Senegal’s all-time top scorer after scoring a hat-trick against Benin Republic.
Mane was in the party as Senegal began their 2023 AFCON qualifying campaign on a winning note.
He opened scoring for Aliou Cisse’s side in the 12th minute after following up a rebound from his saved penalty.
Another opportunity to convert from the spot came again on the hour mark and the former Southampton forward stepped up to score his 31st international goal.
He scored the third goal for Senegal in the game at Diamniadio to take his international tally to 32 and become the greatest goal scorer in Senegal’a football history.
Henri Camara, Senegal’s star at the 2002 World Cup held the spot before.
Recall that Mane led Senegal to their first ever AFCON win earlier in the year when they defeated Egypt on penalties in Cameroon. He converted the final spot kick in the game.
His heroics also helped the Lions of Teranga to book a place in the Qatar 2022 World Cup slated for later in the year.
