Jerusalem born Palestinian-French-Algerian-Serbian rapper, Saint Levant thrilled the audience with an energetic performance at the Coachella Music Festival in California on Saturday.
As usual, the multilingual artiste seized the opportunity to amplify his political activism by taking a swipe at the ongoing Gaza war.
He said “as I hope all of you are aware, the people of Gaza have been undergoing a brutal, brutal genocide for the past six months. And the people of Palestine have been undergoing a brutal occupation for the past 75 years.”
The 23-year-old entertainer whose real name is Marwan Abdelhamid reeled out some of his songs including “Nails”, “From Gaza with Love” and a decelerated version of the smash hit Very Few Friends”
He also performed his two recently released songs “Deira” and “5am in Paris”.
Speaking to journalists before the event, the artist discussed his childhood and upbringing by multicultural parent and how he grew up in Gaza.
“For everyone, childhood is very meaningful. And for me, it was a juxtaposition because I remember the sound of the drones and the sounds of the bones. But more than anything, I remember the warmth, and the smell and the taste of food and just the odd feeling of soil.”
The Californian resident is due to perform the Quoz Arts Fest by Arserkal later this month.
