Nairobi Governor-elect Johnson Arthur Sakaja has taken oath of office as the new Nairobi Governor, effectively taking over from Anne Kananu who succeeded Mike Sonko when he was impeached in 2021.

Sakaja took oath of office at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi at a ceremony attended by President-Elect William Ruto.

The 37-Year-Old Senator Sakaja was accompanied to the swearing-in by his wife and children. All the 45 Governors-Elect took oath of office on Thursday, ten days since their election on August 9, 2022 while elections in Kakamega and Mombasa were postponed to Monday over a ballot papers mix-up.

The 45 were declared winners by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after the election.

The new council will have seven women governors, the highest number of women governors in the council’s history.

County governors are the chief executives of the county governments in Kenya, which are at the second level of governance in the country.
