Mohamed Salah has ended months of speculation about his future by signing a new two-year contract with Premier League leaders Liverpool, the club confirmed on Friday.
The 32-year-old Egyptian forward has been a pivotal figure at Anfield since arriving from Roma in 2017. With 243 goals in 394 appearances, Salah stands as the third-highest goalscorer in Liverpool’s illustrious history.
His renewed deal arrives as Liverpool close in on a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title, currently enjoying an 11-point lead with just seven games remaining in Arne Slot’s first season at the helm.
“Of course I’m very excited,” Salah said in a statement. “We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies. It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10.”

So far this season, Salah has notched 27 goals and provided 17 assists in the league, playing a central role in Liverpool’s title charge.
Manager Arne Slot praised the forward’s impact: “He has shown at this club for so many years in a row how much of a value he is for the club and the team. As like all our fans and his team-mates, we are very happy that he has extended for two more years. Hopefully, he can show on Sunday again (against West Ham) how important he has been for us all season.”
Salah has helped Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2019 and a long-awaited Premier League title in the 2019/20 season. He has also lifted the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup — firmly cementing his legacy as one of the Premier League’s modern greats.
Salah’s commitment comes over interest from the Saudi Pro League and during one of Liverpool’s most turbulent patches of the season. The Reds were recently knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain, lost the League Cup final to Newcastle, and saw their long unbeaten Premier League run ended by Fulham.
The Egyptian’s own form has dipped, with just one goal in his last seven appearances — a penalty against already-relegated Southampton.
The club has also faced continued uncertainty over the futures of other key figures. Both captain Virgil van Dijk and full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are out of contract at the end of the season. While Van Dijk has suggested progress has been made in talks, Alexander-Arnold is reportedly edging closer to a free transfer to Real Madrid.
Salah had previously cast doubt over his Anfield future, suggesting in post-match interviews that he was “probably more out than in” due to slow negotiations.
However, his decision to stay offers Liverpool a major boost, as well as the opportunity for him to continue breaking records. Salah currently sits joint-fifth in the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring list with 184 goals and is just 103 goals shy of Ian Rush’s record 346 for Liverpool.
