Salah scored from the spot in the 61st minute for his 20th goal of the season, a feat he has now managed in his five seasons at the club.
Colombian attacker, Luis Diaz gave the Reds the lead in the 19th minute as he risked a potential collision with Brighton goalkeeper.
The former FC Basel attacker also became the third player in Liverpool to score 50 away league goals in the Premier League era.
Salah’s goal was also his 115th as a Liverpool player.
The Egyptian has spent five successful seasons at Liverpool winning the Premier League, the Champions League and the League Cup this season.
Salah will hope to help Egypt overcome Senegal when both nations meet at the World Cup playoffs later this month.
