Egypt’s Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool go 22 points clear at the top of the English Premier League with two second-half goals in a 4-0 rout of Southampton on Saturday.

With further goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jordan Henderson, it meant that the leaders have collected an astonishing 100 league points from the last 102 available.

Salah who scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season, ensured that Liverpool opened up the biggest lead by any team at the end of a day in English top-flight history.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp says his side are “not even close to being perfect”.

“We’re not even close to being perfect. We just look to use our skills in the best possible way. The boys have done that for a while pretty good and that’s why we have these numbers”.

“We didn’t want a 22-point lead. We wanted 73 points at the end of today,” Klopp said.

The European champions were without the injured Sadio Mane, but Brazilian, Roberto Firmino produced a hat-trick of assists to take his total to 51 in all competitions for the club, while Salah scored twice.

It also meant, Liverpool have won 24 out of 25 league games this season and kept nine clean sheets in 10 games.

With his brace over the Saints’, Salah has now scored more goals at home in this season’s Premier League (12) than any other player.
