Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur have won the Premier League Golden Boot for 2021-22.

Salah had a one-goal lead over Son heading into the final day of the season, but it appeared for a time that the Tottenham star would take the Golden Boot.

There was one final twist as Salah matched Son’s goal total of 23, winning the award for the third time in his Liverpool career.

In addition to the individual shootout between Salah and Son, both Liverpool and Tottenham had team objectives to play for on the final day of the season.

Liverpool were aiming to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title, while Tottenham were battling north London rivals Arsenal for the final Champions League spot.

Spurs easily achieved their goal, winning 5-0 at Norwich, with Son scoring the final two goals on 70 and 75 minutes to move him ahead of Salah.

Salah scored in the 84th minute as Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Wolves, just after Manchester City had come from 2-0 down to take a 3-2 lead at home against Aston Villa.

There would be no more late drama as Liverpool missed out on the title, and sharing the Golden Boot seemed to be little consolation for Salah based on the pictures taken after the game.

Son said; “It’s incredible to have this award.

“I can’t believe it. I got really emotional. I dreamed of it as a child. Literally it’s in my hands. I can’t believe it.

“Until my goal I was really frustrated that I missed big chances. I told the players I missed the easiest chances and scored one of the toughest tones. I didn’t give up.

“I wanted to score today. The team helped me a lot at half-time. They wanted to help me, you could see it today.”

Menahwile, Manchester City won the Premier League title for the fourth time in five years after surviving a massive scare on the season’s final day.

Manchester City Players led by Captain Fernadinho lifting the EPL

Starting one point ahead of Liverpool and with a six-goal difference advantage, City rallied from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2, as former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard failed to do his boyhood club the favor they desired.

It wasn’t for a lack of trying, though, and former Liverpool player Philippe Coutinho also played a role, putting Liverpool on the verge of glory after Villa led 2-0.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s quadruple dream was dashed by a rousing City comeback. On 76 minutes, substitute Ilkay Gundogan gave City hope. Four minutes later, Rodri equalised, and Gundogan scored again to win it amid scenes of relief and jubilation.

The reigning champions got off to a good start in their title defense when Pedro Neto put Wolves up 1-0 at Anfield, but the joy was short-lived as Sadi Mane equalized for the home side.

It got worse when Matty Cash stunned the Etihad to put Villa ahead, and it got even worse when Coutinho scored. But then came the champions’ response, as City snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Liverpool, on the other hand, won 3-1, but it was insufficient.
