Members of The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) did not receive their August salaries. This was confirmed to The PUNCH Newspapers by the National President of the association, Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi.
Recall that the Doctors began the indefinite strike on August 2nd, 2021 and had been persuaded to return to work or risk not getting paid.
In a statement last week, NARD said, “The way I see things now, it looks like the NASS is taking off its hands from the issue.
“The executive arm of the government is not doing anything to implement our demands and the NASS can only be a mediator and make recommendations; they cannot do their work for them.
The Federal Government had also approached the National Industrial Court to coerce the striking doctors to return to work but this proved abortive. This development forced the government to invoke the no-work no-pay rule.
Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi said NARD members across Federal Institutions were yet to receive their August salaries.
“None of our members in federal institutions have received their salaries.
“It is so sad that instead of meeting our demands, the government keeps ignoring the main reason for the strike.”
