Twenty-one individuals were arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) on Friday for crossing major highways in the state.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on X while emphasising the state’s zero-tolerance policy on highway crossings.
“21 persons were apprehended at Ladipo, Ile Epo, and other parts of Lagos for not using the pedestrian bridge. They have all been taken to court for prosecution,” He wrote on Friday, followed with the hashtags #ZeroToleranceLagos #CleanerLagos.
Recall that in February, the Lagos State Government gave a marching order that anyone caught crossing the highways instead of using the pedestrian bridges, should be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
Wahab had made a post on X confirming the directive. He urged pedestrians to ensure road safety and compliance with the state’s regulations.
“Crossing the highway is an offence in Lagos State. Lagos State Government has given a marching order to the #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) Marshall and other law enforcement officials to arrest anyone crossing the highway and then charge them to court immediately.
“Please, use the pedestrian bridges across the state,” he wrote.
