Some of Kenya’s biggest music stars are gearing up for the forthcoming Madaraka Festival, USA. Kenyan male group Sauti Sol put up a poster of the upcoming Festival telling their fans to show up in numbers.
According to festival promoters, Madaraka Festival is out to export East African music to the Diaspora audience. Sauti Sol aren’t the only East African stars taking on the 5 venue Madaraka Festival USA tour – Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo, Kenyan rapper King Kaka, Zimbabwean-American hip hop artist Draze, Tacome refuge choir amongst others.
One of the organisers, DJ Calvince “For a long time, East Africa has been on the back bench when it comes to championing African music in the diaspora. West Africa has been dominating the major platforms and I believe Sauti Sal, King Kaka, and Eddy Kenzo are coming to change that narrative. Let us give them the full support and let’s make history together,”
All these stars will be performing at 5 different venues in the US, kick starting at the Irving plaza, New York on May 16, 2023, through to Atlanta, Dallas and three locations in Seattle till the 1st of June. The East African stars have shared the news with their global fans and announced ticket prices and full details. This news follows Sauti Sols earlier announcement of their Canada tour beginning in August, where they’ll be performing in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.
