Second-Half Solanke Double Powers Tottenham Past Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur dismantled Aston Villa with a thrilling second-half surge on Sunday, securing a 4-1 victory at home and climbing to within two points of the Premier League top four. Dominic Solanke led the charge with two crucial goals, while Brennan Johnson had earlier cancelled out Morgan Rogers’ opener just after the break.

Solanke put Spurs ahead in the 75th minute with a delicate chip past Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez and added his second minutes later from close range. James Maddison capped off the win deep into stoppage time, curling in a stunning free-kick to net his 50th Premier League goal.

Ange Postecoglou praised Solanke’s impact, saying, “His goals are unbelievable but his general play, his work-rate, I can’t speak highly enough of him,” he told Sky Sports.

“Seven days is a long time in football. Seven days ago I was a grumpy old so and so. We have to say true to the course we’re on. We made sure not to feel sorry for ourselves and are back to the team we want to be.”

The win saw Spurs return to form after last week’s loss to Crystal Palace and lifted them to seventh in the league with 16 points.

Villa missed the chance to jump into third place, marking a disappointing 53rd birthday for their manager Unai Emery.
