US Consulate Officials Rescued by Security Forces in Nigeria's Southeast (News Central TV)

Two victims abducted after a United States Embassy convoy was ambushed few days ago, have been rescued, the Anambra State Police Command can confirm.

Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu made the announcement in an update issued Friday morning.

“In the early hours of today, 19/5/2023, joint security forces rescued unhurt the two remaining victims abducted.

“Operations are still ongoing and further details shall be communicated,” the spokesperson added.

The motorcade was ambushed on May 16 along Atani/Osamela road in Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.

The U.S. delegation, including Nigerian and American officials, were on a mission to assess the impact of erosion in Ogbaru LGA.

The police said nine persons died and while suspecting members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN)/Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as culprits.

Their names are Bukar A. Kabuiki, Emmanuel Lukpata, Friday Morgan and Adamu Andrew, who were policemen.

Others include Jefferson Obayuwane (retired DSS personnel), Sunday Prince Ubong, Ekene Nweke, Hassan Etila, Avwuvie Kaye.

The police confirmed that the remains of the deceased persons were all recovered and deposited in a morgue. The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to the attack at a press briefing yesterday.
