The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced its plan to auction 15,325 litres of confiscated premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to alleviate transportation challenges during the festive season.
At a press conference held on Saturday at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos state, Hussein Ejibunu, the national coordinator of the service’s Operation Whirlwind, announced.
Ejibunu said that the petrol, valued at N27.5 million, was confiscated during operations carried out in Lagos and Ogun states, adding that Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), has instructed that the product be auctioned at a price of N10,000 for every 25 litres.
“This operation commenced on May 27, 2024, and has shown positive outcomes, as the CGC has encouraged the operatives to maintain the momentum until the activities of these economic saboteurs are eradicated from the country,” Ejibunu noted.
“Consequently, the CGC has mandated that the auction of the seized product be made available to the public at the cost of N10,000 per 25 litres. This initiative aims to alleviate the transportation difficulties during this festive period.”
