Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met with the President of the Senate Ahmed Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila over a supplementary budget that will cover the cost of new equipment to tackle insecurity as well as COVID-19 vaccination.
Ahmed Lawan diclosed to newsmen on Monday that no provision was made in the 2021 Finance Act adopted in December.
He said both the executive and legislative arms believe that they should have supplementary budgets to provide for funding of the COVID-19 vaccination in Nigeria, as well as the security, providing more resources and platforms to security agencies.
He noted correctly that today in Nigeria, there are no more grave issues, than COVID-19 and security situation. He remarked that when security agencies are given more resources, Nigerians will see an even faster recovery of the situation.
As for the COVID, Lawan noted that Nigeria can not rely on what other countries are doing now, every nation to itself, that’s what is happening.
He also explained some of the challenges faced by the country in getting the COVID-19 vaccination.
He disclosed that for instance, the U.S is not allowing vaccines to go out of U.S. and the EU is not allowing either, the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in UK to be sent out of EU. India is not allowing AstraZeneca vaccine they produced to be exported out.
So where does this leave Nigeria you migh want to ask. Lawan said the country will have to fall back on its our own capacities and abilities.
