The Nigerian Senate has established an 18-member committee to oversee the activities of the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced this during the resumption of plenary on Tuesday. Akpabio stated that the committee’s formation aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the state’s governance.
He appointed Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele as the committee’s chairman.
Members of the committee include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu (South East), Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire (Ondo), Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party), Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa), along with the Clerk of the Senate.

He also emphasised the significance of the committee’s responsibilities, indicating that its function is vital for ensuring adequate legislative supervision in Rivers State.
Akpabio suggested that the committee’s makeup could be revisited after additional discussions.
The Senate President urged the committee to begin its oversight activities promptly, highlighting the pressing nature of their assignment and reaffirming the Senate’s dedication to maintaining democratic practices in Rivers State.
