The Flying Eagles of Nigeria and the Young Lions of Teranga have opened their campaigns at the CAF U-20 AFCON in Niger with wins.
Nigeria beat Burundi 2-0 to go top of Group A thanks to goals from Nazifi Yahaya and Maxwell Effiom. In the group’s other game, hosts Niger were held to a 1-1 draw by South Africa.
Group B action saw Senegal begin the competition with a 2-0 win over Mali with goals from Dion Lopy and Faly Ndaw. The other match of the group between Ghana and Burkina Faso was called off due to problems with the floodlights at the venue and will now be played on Monday evening.
The top four teams of the tournament will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
