Senegal imports turbines ahead of major wind farm project

Senegal imports turbines ahead of first big wind farm project

Senegal has started importation of turbines for her wind farm. The country is staying the course of becoming a notable renewable powerhouse in Africa, by ensuring that a sixth of the country’s power is from renewable sources.

This is in line with President Macky Sall’s plan of a 30 per cent target for clean energy by 2020 and being done in partnership with privately owned British firm, Lekela.

The particular wind farm is located in Taiba Ndiaye -located 100 kilometers from Dakar with a generating capacity of 158.7 megawatts by next year.

The 200 million CFA franc or $352 million project is partially financed by Lekela with the other half being funded by U.S -based Overseas Private Investment Corporation and Danish export credit company, EKF.
