At least seven individuals lost their lives in a single-vehicle accident on the Kaltungo-Cham Road in Gombe State.
Mr Samson Kaura, the state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident on Thursday in Gombe.
He stated that 31 additional individuals suffered varying degrees of injuries in the single-trailer accident, which took place around 7:30 a.m.
Kaura said that the crash was likely caused by the truck’s brake failure, which was transporting soft drinks and 38 people, including 34 men, two women, and two children.
He reported that the fatalities included five men, one woman, and one child, noting that the bodies had been taken to the morgue at the General Hospital Kaltungo while the 31 injured individuals were being treated at the same hospital.
He urged Nigerians to refrain from hitching rides on trailers to save on transportation costs, emphasizing the importance of considering the consequences of road traffic accidents, the loss of lives, and the transportation fees.
