The students and staff members of Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, who had been taken captive by bandits, have been freed after being held for seven months.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, verified the release in a post on Monday but didn’t disclose if a ransom was paid. He noted, however, that security forces played a vital role in their rescue. Authorities have made no official confirmation.
“After an extended period in captivity, it has been verified that all the abducted individuals have returned in good health,” Zagazola stated. The victims were abducted during an assault in the Gusau area in February.
