Seven Persons Burnt to Death in Lagos Accident

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that seven passengers of a commercial bus were yesterday burnt to death at Iyana Oworo inward Third Mainland Bridge.

The vehicle with registration number KJA699GY, was said to have been heading towards the Island when it suddenly got involved in an accident.

The victims comprising four females, two men and a male child, were said to have been among 14 passengers on the bus which caught fire.

LASEMA said the accident was caused by overspeeding and reckless driving.

As soon as the fire started, a few of the occupants were said to have jumped off the bus while 12 others were trapped.

Permanent Secretary LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said: “Fortunately, the driver escaped with some burns, three female adults were rescued and rushed to Gbagada General Hospital while a male adult was attended to by LASAMBUS at the scene.

“Unfortunately seven victims burnt to death in the bus. All the remains have been bagged by the agency’s LRT Paramedics, LASAMBUS official and handed over to SEHMU.

“Arrangements have been made by LASTMA official at the scene for removal of the burnt vehicle from the road. Road is partially opened for vehicular activities. Operation concluded.”
