A United Airlines flight UA613, a Boeing 787-8 travelling from Lagos to Washington Dulles, declared an emergency on Thursday and returned to Lagos.
The aircraft, a widebody 13-year-old Boeing with registration number N27903, had 245 passengers, eight flight attendants, and three pilots and was en route to Washington Dulles International Airport. Some passengers reportedly suffered injuries.
The exact cause of the chaos has not yet been determined, but several passengers believe it may have been related to the engine issues. Nonetheless, only the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau can verify the actual cause of such occurrences.
Micheal Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, confirmed the incident, adding that the passengers had been accommodated in a hotel as required by the regulatory guidelines.
The airline also confirmed the development, attributing the incident to “a technical issue.”
“Flight UA613 from Lagos to Washington D.C. returned to Lagos to address a technical issue.
“After landing safely, the aircraft was met by first responders to address reports of minor injuries to several passengers and crew,” the statement read.
