Several people have lost their lives, and others have sustained injuries after a trailer lost control and overturned on the Muhammadu Buhari Bridge in Kano.
The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.
The trailer, reportedly travelling towards the southern part of the country, crashed while navigating the underpass tunnel that connects Zaria Highway through the city’s ring road.
An eyewitness, said the trailer slipped inside the underpass, and while some people had been rescued, many lost their lives on the spot.

Social media user Yahya Abubakar Sadiq, who shared details of the incident online, wrote:
“Right now, at Hotoro NNPC, under the bridge from Mariri to Unguwa Uku, a truck (Tarela) has overturned, carrying both people and goods. At least more than twenty people were involved, some have lost their lives, while others have sustained serious injuries.”
This location has seen multiple similar accidents over the past year, often involving trailers transporting livestock, food supplies, and passengers from the northern region to the south.
Business operators around the area believe these crashes occur when drivers misjudge the bridge’s clearance and fail to slow down.
Kano State Fire Service spokesperson Saminu Yusif Abdullahi confirmed that rescue operations were ongoing, and authorities were working to gather full details of the tragedy.
